“What’s wrong with you guys?” Josh asked looking puzzled. Usha and Matt have been acting weird lately. Matt in particular, he didn’t like Usha but always supported her decisions. Now he was ignoring and avoiding her.
Matt simply shook her head, “nothing.” And Usha as always ignored him.
“Wow don’t tell me you two hooked up!” Josh joked. Matt blushed as always when talking about these topics while Usha send him an annoyed looked.
“Oh you did!” Josh continued starting to believe it himself.
“No Josh.” Matt denied.
“Then what?” Matt didn’t reply. Usha was looking at them also waiting for Matt’s answer. Josh worried. He took Matt by the arm and went somewhere more private.
“Did she do something to you?”
“No Josh”
“Matt I’m serious, did she hurt you?”
“No Josh she didn’t to anything to me.” Josh relaxed. He wasn’t sure how he would deal if Usha ever hurt Matt. He would probably go and attack her, but won’t even scratch her.
“Matt,” Josh almost whispered, “If something happened, you have to tell me.”
Matt remained silent for a moment. Thinking. Then he shook his head.
“Nothing happened Josh, I just need to realize she is not one of us.” Josh was still confused, but he knew Matt wouldn’t say more. Since he went to college they weren’t close anymore. If it wasn’t for their father’s kidnap they probably wouldn’t even be together right now. But he was the big brother, and he felt it his duty to listen and help his little brother out.
“We need her to find our father. I know what she does is not…”Josh tried to think of a suitable word, “well, he feeds on humans, that’s not really normal. But once we find our father, we won’t need to deal with her anymore.”
Matt nodded. For Josh it was easier to get over the fact that Usha fed on people. He didn’t really care. Matt thought he didn’t too, until he saw her in that car with that family. Josh wouldn’t understand, he would even be able to explain what he is feeling. How he can’t forget the children face.”
“Come on let’s get back inside.” Josh said patting Matt on the shoulder. “I have to get ready to patrol with Usha. We might be close Mattie, I think we are really close.”
Inside Usha was sitting on the table, arms stretched backward, legs folded and head looking at the ceiling.
“Ready partner?” She asked smiling at Josh. He nodded and went to get his bag.
Usha jumped off the table and went to Matt.
“You better get over it Matt.” She snapped. “I will do anything to save Adam.”
